Exciting news!

I launched my other blog today- it has kind of been on the back burner for awhile, I just haven't been in blog mode lately, so it's just been kind of sitting in limbo. My idea is that I need a blog where I can comment on current events, stuff I hear on the news, etc etc. Yummy Mommy just doesn't feel like the place for politics. The new blog is called Here's What I Think and that's exactly what it's for, a place for me to air my own opinions on whatever comes to mind. Kind of like AngryBlackBitch except I could never hope to write as intelligently or be as insightful as her. I would love it if other people got involved and offered their own thoughts as well. Now, if I could just think of something I had an opinion on...

Lethargy

I don't know what's WRONG with me. For the past 2 weeks I have been SO tired. My house is a mess, the laundry needs doing, I have homework (in an effort to make my self more employable, I'm upgrading my math - there are 10,000 English teachers out there, but not so many Math teachers) plus 1000 other projects that need doing, but all I want to do is lie around and read the new William Gibson novel. *sigh* Soccer practice and games have been killing me, and I subbed yesterday afternoon in a Grade 3 class -for TWO HOURS, people- and I was so wiped at 2:30, I thought I was going to have to call hubby to get me out of there in a wheel barrow. I hope this passes soon, whatever it is, 'cause I've got a life to get on with!

I need a makeover!

Okay- I have to admit it- I've reached that stage in my life where I can no longer, by any means, call myself a "girl". I am a woman. Almost, dare I say it, a... MIDDLE AGED woman. Whew. That actually hurt less than I thought it would. The problem is, I am still attracted to teenager clothes- you know, hoodies, cute little tank tops, Daisy Dukes (just kidding about the Daisy Dukes). I'm just one of those people who never knows how to dress appropriately. I'm the one wearing the dress at the casual BBQ while everyone else is wearing shorts, or jeans when everyone else is dressed up. If I had endless financial resources I think I could do a better job of dressing myself, but...that's not the case. Sigh. I need a makeover. Why doesn't one of my friends submit my name to one of those makeover shows??? Not Extreme Makeover or whatever it's called, I'm not willing to go under the knife. I just need someone to show me how to dress appropriately for my age and for different situations. Oh yeah, and pay for my new wardrobe. That would be awesome! I don't need to look like a supermodel (good thing too!) I just want to look pulled together. Is that so much to ask?

Is there any hope?

My husband and I have decided we are done reproducing- 2 kids, a boy and a girl, seems like a nice complete family to us. So when Chloe, who is now 2 1/2, is toilet trained, that means NO MORE POOPY DIAPERS EVER! (until grandkids, that is, but that's so far away right now that is doesn't really worry me - actually I have the odd friend who I love enough to change their kids, but as I get older, I have less friends who are reproducing) Anyway, as you can imagine I am anxious for Chloe to toilet train so I can leave that icky chapter of my life behind. I am feeling a bit hopeless after this exchange last night. It was bed time and I was trying to see if she would pee on the toilet before bed...

Me: "Chloe, would you like to try peeing in the toilet before bed?"

Chloe: "No!"

Me: "Mommy is going to pee in the toilet before bed."

Chloe: "Pfft. That's crazy!"

Hopeless, I tell you...

Check the facts, ma'am!

Ok people, here's some good advice for free...if you are thinking (or stressing) about making a huge life altering decision, such as, oh, I don't know, moving to the middle of nowhere to get a job and pay off your student loans, check the facts first!  I finally got around to calling the student loan people to find out about the loan-forgiveness program, and, what do you know? Teaching does not qualify for the program anywhere in BC. Well, shucks. We have been thinking about this for about 6 months now, coulda saved myself alot of thinking if I'da just checked into it right off the bat. Let that be a lesson to me! So we will be probably be staying put and paying off the student loans the old-fashioned way- one penny at a time!

Decisions, decisions...

One of the reasons I haven't had much to write about so far this fall is that I did not get another teaching contract this year (yet, I add hopefully) It is very discouraging to have spent 5 1/2 years of my life, and accumulated a giant student loan, and be unable to get a job. I am on the T.O.C list (a teacher-on-call, or substitute teacher, or supply teacher, depending on where you are from) but apparently not many teachers call in sick in September (fair enough, as it is the first month of the school year, and you want to save those sick days for when you are feeling REALLY burnt out, like in May!) So I have been playing house mom, doing housework, driving the kids around etc. I do love it, but it is not helping our financial situation at all, especially since because daycare is so hard to find around here, and I didn't know when I'd be working in the fall, I had to book Chloe in to daycare full time, and we have to pay for her spot whether I'm working and need to put her in there or not. Also, being on call bites, as you can't really have a life.

Because of this situation, we are seriously reconsidering relocating to Northern BC for a few years- there are lots of jobs that pay better than down here, and there is also a Northern Living tax break, and for some careers, they will forgive student loans, up to 1/3 a year for three years, if you take a job in a remote community. So, we could be in a much better financial situation if we relocate - there is no way on Earth we will have those loans paid off in three years if we stay here! So what's the problem? Well, we love it here, our kids love it here, we are right next door to my parents on a beautiful piece of property, this is where we want to grow old...*sigh*. It's SO hard to know what to do! Does anyone out there have any words of wisdom on relocating for a job??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hello???

Well, I haven't exactly been burning up the wires writing on Yummy Mommy lately, have I? Well, I cut and pasted a recent message to a friend of mine on Facebook to illustrate that there is a good reason for that- namely, nothing exciting has happened!!!

Things are about the same around here. The biggest event we had lately is that I did a major clean on the laundry room (and it was dirty, let me tell you) because our well-pump packed it in and then there were some issues after it was replaced which I don't really understand not being a well-technician but they resulted in our cold-water rinse cycle on our washing machine not working properly so we had to bring a hose in to fill up the rinse cycle or else it took 2 hours to do a load of laundry and at the rate we create dirty laundry around here that just ain't fast enough so... *deep breath* I was filling up the washing machine and also sweeping the floor in the living room at the same time so I left the hose in the washer unsupervised so naturally it fell out onto the floor and I didn't check on it for awhile so there was a HUGE puddle in the laundry room so I had to move the washer and dryer out and mop underneath them and I figure while I was doing that I might as well dust the shelves and wash the walls and so on and now...the laundry room is the cleanest place in the house!

THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is just how exciting my life is! What's a girl supposed to write about???
