Its hard to be a yummy mommy when you have PMS and there's Easter chocolate EVERYWHERE

Well, my planets must be most unharmoniously aligned this month; I have suffered from a bad case of PMS in the throes of the Easter orgy of chocolate, jelly beans, and calorically excessive meals. Which means I have gained back a few of those hard-lost pounds!! Argh.  What's up with PMS anyway, huh girls? Its like how I felt about childbirth the last time I was in labour- after 2 million years of evolution, you'd think we'd have come up with a better system for producing new humans. Have you ever seen The Matrix...? I think they're on to something there. (Joking...) Alas, evolution has not helped us women, so we are left with suffering during childbirth and weeping during McDonald's commercials and stuffing our faces with bon bons in the midst of the PMS psychosis.

Surf the Earth

This blog (are you supposed to capitalize Blog or not? As an English teacher, I want to know. Probably  not unless it is in the name of the blog- I think that would be proper). As I was saying, this blog~ Style Bubble~ currently featured by TypePad as one of their blogs of note, looks pretty cool. I will check it out further when I get a moment.

Went snowboarding on Mt Washington today and tried out my new jacket ~ it was sweet. Out here on the west coast, there is tons of snow, but it tends to be pretty wet. Waterproofing is important, but it can also be comparatively warm, so it has to breath too. Mine did both.  I should have mentioned that I got my jacket at Timeless Snow & SK8 in Courtenay. The owner is a friend and a good dude. If you're ever in Courtenay (that's on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada ~ and I recommend you come here, it's beautiful!) and find yourself in need of some snowboarding or skateboarding equipment, or some cute little clothes of the style worn by chicks who do those sorts of things, go see Wayne at Timeless! He's got a great selection.

It felt great to get on the mountain again. I think I may have gone once last year. My goal for this season is to get up at least 10 times, as long as the weather cooperates. A yummy mommy's gotta get her shred on once in awhile! Seriously, I really believe that part of being a good parent is taking care of yourself, and cultivating your interests outside your family. As a bonus, Brodie is starting to get pretty good too, so I can also use snowboarding as "Brodie time" too.

Here's a picture of another beautiful west coast mountain- this one is Grouse Mountain, on the North Shore of Vancouver. Its famous for its scary scary mountain biking trails, although I think quite a few of them have been dismantled after someone was seriuosly injured on one of the "tricks", which are wooden structures kind of like bridges, some of them 10 feet in the air and mere inches wide, that people ride their bikes on! *I am feeling much more positive about winter after today ~ I was really hating it for awhile there, what with the 2 feet of snow shutting everything down and making driving hell. I found this website that seems to have the same philosohpy about yummy mommyism that I do. Extra bonus is that its developer, Erica Ehm, is a Canadian like me. Here's what Erica says about being a yummy mummy:

Yay- I finally signed up!

Well- I finally did it! I have had the idea for this blog for a long time now, I have just been so busy with kids, job, wedding, life, soccer, and so on.  I am hoping to use this blog to help me on my quest to become a  "yummier  mommy".  (Apparently there is another blog out there called "Yummy  Mummy" - with the British spelling- I hope I'm not stepping on anyones toes). So,  I guess  here is where I should define  "yummy mommy", so if anyone actually ever reads this blog,  they will be able to tell right away if it interests them or not.

To me, a yummy mommy (ideal version) is someone who is together and organized, has a home that is clean enough to pass a health inspection, feeds her kids (and herself)  reasonably healthy food most of the time,has some parenting skills and uses them whenever possible, has a sense of her own personal style but is not a fashion victim, cares about the planet, manages her stress effectively, and looks after herself so that she can be the best mommy, and person, she can. Because you really can't be a good parent if you are not looking after yourself. I'm sure this list will grow and evolve as this blog does, but for now, thats what I am working toward. I am at least some of those things at least some of the time, but there's always room for improvement, isn't there!
